"In-line skating is a pursuit that transforms the inner workings of the mind & soul to such a degree that everyday concerns such as homework, grocery shopping, lawn mowing, taxes & spousal complaints are forgotten. Only the immediate sensations of slicing through the air on silent, spinning wheels remain on the brain"
- Doug Werner 1995

Hockey Heads – 12/10/09

‘Whether I think I can or I can’t – I’m probably right’

RINKRATS: 6.30pm game this Wed Oct 14.  We had our first ‘fight’ at hockey and unfortunately we will be without Kerrod for 1 week & Kris & John for 3wks!! We certainly didn’t start it & were disappointed with the outcome. I can just picture Paul getting the news…and on the 1st week that he was away!

FFF: Good training & some fun scrimmage last week – thanks guys. I almost panicked last week when there were only 3 of us at 7.00pm – but it ended up being a really good night. Training & scrimmage this Friday Oct 16.

NEWS: Will have the dates of the playoffs real soon & they as usual will lead up to the Grandfinal & the official end of our season for 09. At this stage it will probably be  the 3on3 format with the Dragons, Demons & Knights going head to head. Would like to revive the Assassins if we can get the numbers – it is just easier with 4 teams.

See you Friday

Hockey Heads – 29/09/09

One only realises the value of water after it is all gone

RINKRATS: No game this Wed Sept 30 due to Nationals. “The last two weeks have seen two great contests played out by the Rink Rats. The Pine Rivers Fossils were the first team to take on the Rats, and to walk away having felt the sting of defeat. In what was an incredibly tight contest the Rats managed to come from behind late in the second half, finally finding their way past the seemingly impenetrable force of Fisher in net, to win the game 3 to 2. Next the Rats did battle with the Brisbane River Kings. This time they controlled the game from the very beginning. The second half saw the Kings try to rally, levelling the game at 3 all. But they were not prepared for the famous Rink Rat second half strength. The Rats piled on three goals in the time remaining, with the River Kings only able to manage one. The final score 6 – 4 to the Rats. This now marks the end of the second rotation and the Rats are looking very strong, with 10 wins and 4 losses. As it stands the Rats have only lost 1 game of the last 10 played. This week they take on the Bundamba Bombers at 9.30pm. Come and cheer them on!” – RRR

“The dust storm that struck the east coast of Australia this Wednesday not only left a mess on our cars and windows, but it also found it’s way onto the rink, creating one of the most slippery playing surfaces ever skated on. This was the scene for the latest match between the Rink Rats and the Bundamba Bombers. The two previous games between these teams has seen the Rink Rats finish on top with convincing wins on both occasions. Having their ability to out skate the opposition taken from them by the dust changed the balance of the game. The Bombers used their size and passing skills to their advantage to go ahead on the scoreboard by 2 goals before the Rats could muster a reply. This was repeated by Bundamba scoring another two goals to the Rink Rats one, then yet another with three minutes to go in the first half. A fantastic late comeback in the last 2 minutes of the first half saw the Rats score twice to bring the game back within reach. The score 5 – 4 at the half time buzzer. The second half was one of the tightest fought battles of the season, with the game level after the Rats again clawed their way back to equalise at 6 all, before Bundamba again snuck one past the Rink Rats defences. There was time for one last play to try and equalise once again. The Rink Rats, chewing on the dust and grit between their teeth, had control. Now was their chance. MacLean made a great pass up to O’Leary (27) deep in the oppositions territory. O’Leary (11) came tearing down the right hand side towards the net and received a cross goal pass from O’Leary (27). He gathered control, shot, and watched as the puck bounced off Goalie Canhams face shield and away from goal, all to the sound of the final buzzer ringing in their ears. The final score 7 – 6 to the Bombers. One of the highlights of the evening coming from the team captain, O’Leary (27) scoring a “Hat Trick” of goals and one assist. The Rink Rats next look to take on the brute force of the Rhinos on the 7th of October at 8.30pm. O’Leary (11) will step in to captain the team for the remaining games of the regular season, with O’Leary (27) away overseas, and we all wish him the best of luck leading the Rink Rats to the finals!” – RRR

FFF: Grandfinal this Friday – Dinosaurs vs The Abominable Snowmen vs The Jackson 5 vs The Smurfs. Team photos this week definitely!! I have seen Smurfs & Dinosaurs but nothing from the other 2 slacko’s!! Turn it up on Friday!!

NEWS: Daniel (Smith) unfortunately HAS cracked his rib and will be out for the next 6wks – a bad blow for The Smurfs. Graham & Michelle Sankey will be joining us this Friday night!! I don’t have everyone’s email addresses yet so if you are talking to anyone else please fill them in or get them to email me their address pretty please. Our annual general meeting will be this Friday as well – it will be short & sweet I promise – if you could arrive 15min early it would be appreciated. We will really need some extra players this Friday & 1 goalie – put out the word.

See you Friday

Jackson 5 is alive!!
