Julie Hawes
Level 2 certified skate instructor
Level 1 Strength & Conditioning coach
Personal Trainer
Hockey coach.

Like many of us I skated on quads back in the 70’s & was re-introduced to recreational skating on ‘inline’ skates around 1999 & discovered the freedom of skating outdoors on our many inner-city bikepaths. My recreational skates are Salomon Deemax which are very similar to a hockey skate & are a sturdy skate providing plenty of support ..perfect for carpark hockey on the weekends. My rec skates are always the 1st thing packed when traveling …don’t leave home without them!

I am fortunate to be sponsored by Digi Skating & CCM for my hockey gear, which is the same gear worn by the BlueTongues. My partner Chris Staneke plays for the Brisbane BlueTongues (our team in the National Ice Hockey League), represents Australia in Inline Hockey & coaches Qld kids in ice & inline. We have 3 BlueTongue players regularly volunteer as our Goalies on Friday nights. I have become an absolute hockey head & recently represented Qld (senior womens) at the 2005 National Inline Tournament & also managed & Chris coached the Masters’ team.

Hockey is simply the best workout you will get all week & great for stress management.. but how to get match fit or stay in shape for the rest of the week…

With a background in Bodybuilding (competed in Universe Titles 1992), managing a fitness centre & Personal Training I decided to blend this with my fav pastime (skating/hockey) & now teach Sk8Fit classes. Sk8Fit offers off-rink training around the inner city with 12 different programs providing 3 months worth of training. Take on challenges like Point Break, The StairMaster, HeartBreak Hill, Short Circuit & Boot Camp. Work on strength, power, agility flexibility, endurance & core strength. Once a month try the Sk8Fit Special Sunday Session just for a bit of cross-training & something a little different…climb Mt Tibrogargan, get lost in a Maze or perhaps a little Skirmish. My motto is fitness should be FUN. I maintain that I am basically lazy but make something fun & interesting, different & challenging & I’m getting a workout without even knowing it.
