RINKRATS: 6.30pm game this Wed Oct 14. We had our first ‘fight’ at hockey and unfortunately we will be without Kerrod for 1 week & Kris & John for 3wks!! We certainly didn’t start it & were disappointed with the outcome. I can just picture Paul getting the news…and on the 1st week that he was away!

FFF: Good training & some fun scrimmage last week – thanks guys. I almost panicked last week when there were only 3 of us at 7.00pm – but it ended up being a really good night. Training & scrimmage this Friday Oct 16.

NEWS: Will have the dates of the playoffs real soon & they as usual will lead up to the Grandfinal & the official end of our season for 09. At this stage it will probably be the 3on3 format with the Dragons, Demons & Knights going head to head. Would like to revive the Assassins if we can get the numbers – it is just easier with 4 teams.

See you Friday

One only realises the value of water after it is all gone

RINKRATS: No game this Wed Sept 30 due to Nationals. “The last two weeks have seen two great contests played out by the Rink Rats. The Pine Rivers Fossils were the first team to take on the Rats, and to walk away having felt the sting of defeat. In what was an incredibly tight contest the Rats managed to come from behind late in the second half, finally finding their way past the seemingly impenetrable force of Fisher in net, to win the game 3 to 2. Next the Rats did battle with the Brisbane River Kings. This time they controlled the game from the very beginning. The second half saw the Kings try to rally, levelling the game at 3 all. But they were not prepared for the famous Rink Rat second half strength. The Rats piled on three goals in the time remaining, with the River Kings only able to manage one. The final score 6 – 4 to the Rats. This now marks the end of the second rotation and the Rats are looking very strong, with 10 wins and 4 losses. As it stands the Rats have only lost 1 game of the last 10 played. This week they take on the Bundamba Bombers at 9.30pm. Come and cheer them on!” – RRR

“The dust storm that struck the east coast of Australia this Wednesday not only left a mess on our cars and windows, but it also found it’s way onto the rink, creating one of the most slippery playing surfaces ever skated on. This was the scene for the latest match between the Rink Rats and the Bundamba Bombers. The two previous games between these teams has seen the Rink Rats finish on top with convincing wins on both occasions. Having their ability to out skate the opposition taken from them by the dust changed the balance of the game. The Bombers used their size and passing skills to their advantage to go ahead on the scoreboard by 2 goals before the Rats could muster a reply. This was repeated by Bundamba scoring another two goals to the Rink Rats one, then yet another with three minutes to go in the first half. A fantastic late comeback in the last 2 minutes of the first half saw the Rats score twice to bring the game back within reach. The score 5 – 4 at the half time buzzer. The second half was one of the tightest fought battles of the season, with the game level after the Rats again clawed their way back to equalise at 6 all, before Bundamba again snuck one past the Rink Rats defences. There was time for one last play to try and equalise once again. The Rink Rats, chewing on the dust and grit between their teeth, had control. Now was their chance. MacLean made a great pass up to O’Leary (27) deep in the oppositions territory. O’Leary (11) came tearing down the right hand side towards the net and received a cross goal pass from O’Leary (27). He gathered control, shot, and watched as the puck bounced off Goalie Canhams face shield and away from goal, all to the sound of the final buzzer ringing in their ears. The final score 7 – 6 to the Bombers. One of the highlights of the evening coming from the team captain, O’Leary (27) scoring a “Hat Trick” of goals and one assist. The Rink Rats next look to take on the brute force of the Rhinos on the 7th of October at 8.30pm. O’Leary (11) will step in to captain the team for the remaining games of the regular season, with O’Leary (27) away overseas, and we all wish him the best of luck leading the Rink Rats to the finals!” – RRR

FFF: Grandfinal this Friday – Dinosaurs vs The Abominable Snowmen vs The Jackson 5 vs The Smurfs. Team photos this week definitely!! I have seen Smurfs & Dinosaurs but nothing from the other 2 slacko’s!! Turn it up on Friday!!

NEWS: Daniel (Smith) unfortunately HAS cracked his rib and will be out for the next 6wks – a bad blow for The Smurfs. Graham & Michelle Sankey will be joining us this Friday night!! I don’t have everyone’s email addresses yet so if you are talking to anyone else please fill them in or get them to email me their address pretty please. Our annual general meeting will be this Friday as well – it will be short & sweet I promise – if you could arrive 15min early it would be appreciated. We will really need some extra players this Friday & 1 goalie – put out the word.

See you Friday

*** Hey guys we are thinking of extending this 3 on 3 because we didn’t want to have the final with a lot of our players away at nationals. It would be much more exciting to have everyone there. Could all players let me know their availability for Oct 2..also the Sankeys will be here for that night..let me know also how Sept 11 is?? Not sure how long you guys are at nationals.

RINKRATS: “The Rink Rats were back to their winning ways again this week, taking on the Sunshine Coast team, and coming out on top. The Rink Rats bench was overflowing, with 11 players all ready to do their part to correct the errors of the previous week. It only took a short while for the group to find their groove, falling behind two goals before beginning to show their hand. By half time, the Rats had clawed their way into the lead. This trend continued through the second half, with Sunshine outscored 3 goals to 2, and forced to concede defeat. The final score 7 – 5 to the Rink Rats. Highlights of the game include, Canham (44) and Wallin both with 2 goals, and MacLean with 1 goal and 1 assist. Congratulations to the Rats who this Wednesday take on Pine Rivers at 6:30pm. Don’t miss your opportunity to see them in action!” – RRR

RINKRATS: “After six straight wins, the Rink Rats streak was finally broken at the hands of the Bundamba/Toowoomba Highlanders last Wednesday night. The Highlanders were the stronger team right from the start, piling on the pressure with strong forechecking, leaving the Rats with little time think. They were ahead by 4 goals before the Rink Rats managed to score. After receiving a pass from Beyers, Canham (81) took the puck behind the net, and with an amazinging display of skill, managed to scoop the puck up onto the end of his stick to score with a waist high wrap around. Staight from the restart, the Rats managed to find the net again, with a lucky pass from O’Leary (27), finding Canham (44) unmarked infront of the net. The Rink Rats looked to be making a comeback, and again from the faceoff they gained control, and O’Leary (27) found himself with a breakaway opportunity from half way. He drifted to the right, deeked to the left and backhanded the puck past the goalie, but with a resounding “ding” the puck bounced off the post and back out. Sadly that sound marked the end of the comeback for the Rats. As the second half began, both teams again were hard at it, both making strong attacks, but it was not to be for the Rats, their shot conversion was at a low 8.33% against the Highlanders 29.57%, which saw Bundamba/Toowoomba score another 4 goals to win the game 8 – 2. The Rink Rats now look forward to taking on the Sunshine Coast team this coming Wednesday the 2nd of September again late at 9:30pm, where they hope to get back to their winning ways.” – RRR

FFF (Fun & Friendly Fridays): Thanks again to Chris for another good training session last Friday…yes he is a hard task master – but says you will play how you train – so train hard & well. More training this Friday Aug 21. Our next 3 on 3 comp is on Sept 4, 11, 18 & 25. Thanks to Nathan, Paul & Kiri for letting me know their availability – still waiting to hear from the rest of the club so that we can do the draw for the teams – hello!!. Teams will be re-shuffled according to points scored in the last comp. Can the goalies let me know who will be available Aug 28 for a goalie clinic? Everyone has been getting a good workout with all the push-ups during the shootouts on Kiri…some said that they were sore all week…you’ll get used to it girls. Kiri is training hard with a little push from Coach Staneke & the results are showing – well done Kiri.

RINKRATS: “One of the closest games of the season so far was played out this week between the Rink Rats and the Rhinos. Both top of the ladder teams, and both determined not to let go of their winning streak. In their last match the Rhinos made it clear they weren’t happy about the previous seasons semi final loss, and sent a message of intent for this season, beating the Rats 9 – 3. So the Rats knew they were about to play a very tough game. Utilizing their team strengths, the Rink Rats were able to capitalise on poor defence by the Rhinos to equalise after an early goal was scored on Everingham. A strong pass from Canham (84) found O’Leary (27) open next to the net, and a quick one timer put the puck home. This was quickly followed by an O’Leary special. O’Leary (27) passing across to O’Leary (11) on a “2 on 0″ breakaway. The Rats were in the lead, and the Rhinos were getting physical. Tempers flared after a dangerous push saw Canham (81) suffer a sickening fall backwards into the boards. The Rats struck back where it hurts most, on the scoreboard. The third goal was scored off a rebound from a shot sent in by Cervenjak which sat nicely for O’Leary (27) to put away. For the first time in a long time, the Rink Rats went into the half time break ahead on the scoreboard. Going into the second half it appeared as though the Rats were going to have to dig deep, because the Rhinos were quickly catching up. After ten minutes the Rhinos had levelled the game at 3 all, and the Rats appeared flustered. Too many shots were being fired straight at the Rhinos goalie Cicchitti, and it seemed the Rats had forgotten the successes of the first half, scoring by passing around the goalie. After a time out had been called, the team looked back on track. Another fast “2 on 0″ breakout play unfolded between the famous “McGourty/Canham (81)” partnership, and a beautifully timed pass from McGourty across the goal allowed Canham to take the Rats back into the lead. Nine minutes remained on the clock. The war was not won yet. For another fierce five minutes the two teams battled until Wallin, playing injured after a dirty uncalled trip in the slot, found the back of the net off a crisp shot from high on the point. The two point lead would proved vital, with the Rhinos fighting to the very end, scoring one last time. As the teams shook hands in the center of the rink, the scoreboard above read 5 – 4 to the Rink Rats. The next challenge for the Rats will be on the 19th at 6:30pm against the Logan Rangers, and like this game, the Rink Rats want to set the record straight, after being beaten the last time they played.” – RRR

‘TO DISCOVER NEW OCEANS I HAVE TO HAVE THE COURAGE TO LEAVE SIGHT OF THE SHORE’

FFF (Fun & Friendly Fridays): Sorry about the late Hockey Heads – Chris & I were away til last night. Thanks to Madden for helping out with our training session last Friday – it’s encouraging to know we are on the right track. More training this Friday August 7 ready to start hopefully with some lights on at 7.30pm.

RINKRATS: The latest team to take on the mighty Rink Rats were the Brisbane River Kings. A team that has been beating some of the toughest teams in the league, including most recently, the Logan Rangers. This was to be a true test for the Rink Rats. The Rats started out slow and in usual fashion, were the first to give away a goal. But by the half time buzzer, they had managed to equalise, and the team was starting to get an understanding for this tough opposition. In countless matches, the Rats have been the better team in the second half. They needed to make that happen tonight. However, at the start of the second half, it was the River Kings putting the puck in the net, twice within the first two minutes. Canham (44), having scored the first goal of the evening answered the call. A crisp pass from McGourty found Canham (44) open and the Rats started their comeback. O’Leary (27) and Canham (81) each scored goals shortly after to take the Rats into the lead. Then with five minutes to go, Canham (44) sealed their fate, scoring off a pass from Canham (84), securing himself the illustrious ”Hat Trick”. Congratulations to the Rats! They had done it again, taken on a strong team, let them get ahead on the scoreboard, and then come together with some fantastic team work to claw their way back and take out the match. This game marks the end of the first rotation of the Winter competition, and the results to date are 4 wins and 3 losses for the Rats. This week it’s back to the start, to once again take on the Bundamba Bombers in what is sure to be another game full of excitement with plently of thrills and spills.” – RRR

JERSEYS: Just need jerseys back from Sankey Cup still from Twitch & Jarryd this week thanks guys. Will bring JERSEY ORDER FORM along this week for those who would like to order blue or white RinkRat jerseys or look out for clothing (blue or white) that you would like a RinkRat logo on.
